Recycling Industry Support Program
The Recycling Means Business Campaign works to create awareness of the economic and environmental benefits of expanding California’s recycling industry and manufacturing base in an effort to put people and recyclable materials to work creating new products for domestic and export markets.
The Program works with federal, state and local officials, as well as recyclers, manufacturers and scientists to develop a greater understanding of the economic and environmental benefits that can be created by using the state’s recycled materials for in-state manufacturing.
Currently, XX percent of California’s recyclable materials are exported to other countries, where people are employed to turn them into new products, which are then shipped back to the United States. Not only does this represent a lost opportunity to create jobs in the state, and XX amount loss revenue, it creates uncertainty regarding the environmental and public health standards under which these materials are recycled.
